Research Resources available Online

Wellington County Museum and Archives - Online Collection
The Wellington County Museum and Archives houses the largest collection of Palmerston related material, much of it searchable through their online database found here.

The searchable database includes images of many artifacts within the collection and location information of archival materials.  As well the Wellington County Historical Society Journal and Tweedsmuir Histories are all digitized and searchable.

The collection is so massive it is diffiult for the small staff to get everything online, so I highly recommend personally visiting the museum and archives if you're able.  For more information visit their website: http://www.wellington.ca/Museum/

History of Perth County 1825-1902
William Johnston produced the first official history of Perth County up to 1902.  The book provides a detailed account of the early history of Wallace Township and the early years of Palmerston and its eventual breakaway to Wellington County.  If you're looking for information on early agriculture in the area this is a great resource.

History of Palmerston Dissertation
Completed in 1980, this dissertation by Mary Smith was completed as a part of her Doctorate work at the University of Cincinnati.  Smith completed an extensive amount of research to complete this thorough history of Palmerston.  Much of the early history unfortunately contains large gaps, however the mid-late 1900's is very detailed.

Census Records
To date the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 Census has been transcribed, while not in its entirety what is available is extensive and very helpful in researching.  Any census prior to 1881 was taken before Palmerston came into existence and the citizens would be divided between Minto and Wallace Townships.
